Chapter 10
Hamish
Claire.
Her smile, so wide, open and free.
Her laugh, infectious and completely unstoppable.
Her body, so tempting, all luscious curves and invitation to touch.
I glanced up over the top of my computer screen at her. Once, Iâd have done that and sheâd have shot me a look, one that said she hoped I rotted in hell.
She met my eyes.
This look didnât say leave me alone.
This look said desire.
I opened my email screen to a new message.
From: [email protected]
Subject: Christmas party
Dear Claire,
Will you be attending the Christmas party tonight?
From Hamish
From: [email protected]
Subject: Iâll be there with bells on
Dear Hamish,
Of course, I will. I love Christmas, and it is a party celebrating the eventâs very nature, right?
From Claire
From: [email protected]
Subject: What else will you be wearing?
Dear Claire,
You do love Christmas. I have to admit, youâre bringing me around to the event, too. Itâs been a while since I found myself looking at ugly Christmas sweaters, but you brought that joy back to me. Thank you.
From Hamish
From: [email protected]
Subject: Why do you want to know?
Hamish,
I must apologise to your poor brother in advance then. When he sees the torture you no doubt now plan to unleash on him, heâs going to wish I never reminded you of your twisted tradition.
Claire
From: [email protected]
Subject: Because itâs my dream to unwrap you. And I want to know what I should imagine tearing from your body, Claire. You wonât have to apologise to my brother.
The cursor blinked, waiting for me to finish the email. Finish what Iâd started.
Was I ready to tell her? Could I go there?
I glanced up at those green eyes again. They were fixed on the screen, the picture of concentration.
I ran one hand through my hair, sighed. It had been so long since Iâd done thisâflirted, hoped, wished for something moreâand Iâd forgotten that it would come to this point. The point where it became more than just thoughts of hot kisses. The point where it became more than laughter over brunch. The point where it became more.
I glanced at the date. A little more than a year â¦
Nausea churned my guts. Pain, raw and real, stabbed me in the chest, a physical ache just as deep and twisted as the emotional one. Damn it.
âClaire? Hamish?â
I looked up. Frank waltzed over, dwarfing a piece of paper in his giant hands.
I minimised the email screen. There was no point dwelling on the past. I had to move forwardâtake action. Just like Iâd done ever since the accident, and just like Iâd keep on doing. I focused on my boss, my eyes trained on his dark eyes. On now.
âI just got the signed Actron contract. Well done, you two! Commission has been split, and itâs a neck and neck race for whoâll come out on top this month.â He slapped the piece of paper against the corner of my desk. âMaybe youâll let Claire come first, hey?â
I have every intention of it. When I explore her body with my mouth, trace those curves with my fingers, she will be the first to come, thereâs no doubt about that.
